Gastronomy

Nea Potidea is a destination for gourmets, as fresh fish and seafood is caught daily by the local residents' purse seiners and fishing boats.

But it will not disappoint the taste buds of any visitor, as there are farms with local meats, cheeses, honey and fresh fruit and vegetables in the area.

Thus, you will find a variety of delicious “dishes” in the restaurants and taverns, covering all tastes.

Activities

Just in front of Porto Portes Suites, there is a pedestrian walkway that runs along the eastern side of the canal and continues along the entire coastal front of the settlement for several kilometres. It is suitable for walks, hiking, running, cycling and endless play for our little ones.

In the crystal clear, calm waters of Toroneos Gulf, you will enjoy swimming, diving, water parks and water sports.

The wide, sandy beach invites beach volleyball fans to compete on the various courts along the beach.
Aspiring fishermen can try their luck from land or from a tourist fishing boat in the marina.

For those who love picnics the perfect location is the pine-covered hill opposite our accommodation. Enjoy a glass of wine or a snack while sailing on the waters of the canal.

Discover

The trademark of Nea Potidea is, of course, its canal.
On its banks, dense vegetation of pine trees that reach the sea, along its length, ancient and Byzantine ruins of the walls of the old city and in its two harbours, anchored boats and fishing boats, compose the landscape.

The view from the bridge that connects Kassandra with the rest of Halkidiki is magnificent. Walk along the footpath and enjoy the panoramic view of the union of the two seas, Thermaikos and Toroneos Gulf. Take unique photos and videos.

In Nea Potidea, however, not only the two seas are combined but also the East and the West... So, if you love waking up early in the morning or staying up until dawn, a walk on the beach of Toroneos Gulf will reward you with the view of a bright sunrise rising behind Mount Athos. The magnificent sunset, of course, from the Thermaikos Gulf side, is one of the most photographed spots in the village. Late in the afternoon, as the sun bids us farewell and disappears behind Mount Olympus, the tower of the walls that has been standing for centuries in the sea, dressed in the colours of the sunset, seduces...

Along the route of the canal, on the side of Nea Potidea, are the ruins of the crossing of Kassandria, which used to dominate the city in the past. There are signs of the Archaeological Service, some of them with digital applications, which inform you about the history of the place in ancient and Byzantine times.
If you love the ancient Greek culture of Greece, don't miss the most important, recent find in the area, a single-chamber Macedonian tomb, which is located 4 km south of Nea Potidea. However, the two marble, painted beds found there are now on display at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
A very important monument for the modern history of the place, but not known to the general public, is the monument of the fallen fighters in the holocaust of Kassandra, at the beginning of the revolution of 1821. It is located next to the village cemeteries, on a hill and offers a wonderful view of both bays.
Picturesque stops on your hiking routes are also the chapel of Agios Nikolaos, patron saint of seafood, located next to the harbour, on the west side of the canal.
The large, imposing church of Agios Georgios in the centre of the village, bordering a playground, next to the picturesque square where there is a pharmacy and an ATM.
The beautiful chapel of Panagia Faneromeni, on the hill at the edge of the village, where you can rest on the benches and enjoy the wonderful view of Toroneos Gulf, Sithonia and Mount Athos.

For those who love nature, just a few kilometres outside Potidea, there is the lagoon of Agios Mamas, a designated place of outstanding natural beauty and a shelter for wildlife for many species of birds such as flamingos, water birds and others.

Nea Potidea with its rich history and its unique beauty, invites you to discover all its ‘'treasures’' and visit it nostalgically, again and again!
